After 130 Years, Massenet’s One-Act Opera Returns to the Tbilisi Opera Stage

After more than a century, the renowned French composer Jules Massenet’s one-act opera La Navarraise has returned to the stage of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre. The premiere performances took place on April 12 and 17, with the role of Garrido performed by rising baritone Akaki Gugushvili.

The opera was first staged in 1894 in London, in the presence of the Prince of Wales. Just a year later, it premiered in Tbilisi—but has not been performed in Georgia since.
