Baritone Akaki Gugushvili was born in Tbilisi. He studied at the Zakaria
Paliashvili Central Music School (2016–2019) and earned a Bachelor’s degree in
Law from the Georgian Technical University in 2019. Guided by his passion and
talent for music, he entered the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire
in 2020, studying with Professor Teimuraz Gugushvili. A scholarship recipient
throughout his education, he graduated with highest distinction in 2024.
Mr. Gugushvili made his professional debut at the Tbilisi Opera and
Ballet Theatre in 2022 as Marcello in Puccini’s La Bohème. From 2023 to 2025 he
returned to the same stage to perform Garrido in Massenet’s La Navarraise, the
Majordomo in Paliashvili’s Abesalom and Eteri, Abimélech in Saint-Saëns’s
Samson et Dalila, and Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. While at Conservatoire
, he also performed extensively with the Conservatoire Opera Studio and the
Tbilisi Opera Orchestra, performing roles such as Gianni Schicchi (Gianni
Schicchi), Rigoletto (Rigoletto), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), and Dulcamara
(L’elisir d’amore), among others.
In 2024, Akaki Gugushvili made his international debut in Italy, singing
the title role in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in a production directed by Maestro
Roberto Scandiuzzi.
He was named one of the Top Ten finalists at the 8th Jubilee Bulbul International Vocal Competition in 2022. The following year, he took part in the international festival “Batumian Rhapsody” – “Opera’s Golden Voice” Vocal Academy Week, founded by renowned soprano Tamar Iveri. During the festival, he had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses with distinguished artists Roberto Scandiuzzi, Vesselina Kasarova, Bojidar Nikolov and Maurizio Trejo. Returning to the same festival in 2025, he performed the role of Alfio in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and was selected, following a masterclass with Maestro Mathieu Abelli, as one of sixteen young singers to appear in the Gala Concert.
